Mayor Philip Glanville glad to see Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino communities set up the
mission and vision to transform the An Viet House to become the Home of Far East

The Mayor Philip Glenville, the Speaker Councillor Soraya Adejare, and the Chinese Embassy Deputy Head of
Consulate Mr Du Jitao  joined the Far East communities in Hackney celebrating the Lunar New Year in An Viet
House on Saturday 24 th of February 2018.

The Mayor and the Speaker toured the An Viet House enjoying the exhibitions from the Vietnamese, Chinese and
Filipino communities. The Mayor told the gathering that he is glad to see various communities’ partnership together
to promote the social cohesion through the greater cooperation. He sees share resources between communities is the
way forward for the voluntary sector, the partnership of the Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino communities is a good
example of community collaboration. Mayor Glanville also pledged to continual supporting the elderly luncheon club
project which fund by the council.

After the traditional Lion Dance pick up the lucky pack by Pak Mei Kung Fu and Lion Dance Troupe, and packed
performances from the Hackney Chinese Community School, Kanlungan Filipino Consortium, Rev. Kah Geh Chong
from Hackney Chinese Community Services, Vietnamese Chinese Culture Friendship Association UK, Singing and
Dancing Club from Hackney Chinese Community Services and Jun Mo Generation, the Speaker Cllr. Soraya Adejare
presented her personally signed certificates to the long serving community leaders to praise their meritorious service
to the community, and presented the award for the volunteers of the year and the performers.

The Mayor and the Speaker enjoyed lunch with leaders from the Chinese, Vietnamese and Filipino communities of
East Asia cuisines.

Tom Cheung, manager from Hackney Chinese Community Services said “It is a privilege to have both the Mayor and
the Speaker join us for the celebration. Our partnership with the Council is demonstrated by the Mayor Sam Springer
in 1983 hosted the Chinese New Year celebration in the Town Hall and Mayor Philip Glenville celebrating the 2018
Lunar New Year with the Chinese Vietnamese and Filipino communities. We look forward to working with the
Council for the next 35 years to provide services and support to Far East communities in Hackney.”
